At 1,625 sq miles (4,210 sq km) Nunivak Island is the 8th largest Island in the United States; the 7th largest in Alaska (Kodiak Island is the largest Alaskan Island at 3,672 sq miles/9,510 sq km), and the 2nd largest island in the Bering Sea (St. Lawrence is the largest Bering Sea Island at 1,710 sq miles/4,430 sq km). For comparison, Long Island New York, the largest island in the continental U.S. is 1,401 sq miles (3,629 sq km).

The population of Nunivak in early 2004 was recorded as 179 (NPT village census). The population of Long Island according to the 2000 U.S. Census was more than 8 million.
